EVELLE: THE JOURNEY OF A SONGSTRESS AND HER UNSTOPPABLE RISE
Evelyn Ibhade Zibili, better known as Evelle, has been a force to reckon with in the music scene.
Her rise to prominence began in 2010 when she won a singing competition in Dakar, Senegal, as part of a 4-piece group during the Nestlé African Revelation contest. She made waves in 2014 by winning Nigerian Idol. Her talent has since been recognized with accolades like the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Soundtrack, and in 2020, she served as a judge on the Pan-African music reality TV show, Amazing Voices Africa.
In her latest dual-pack release “Fire” and “Come Back (Stronger)”, Evelle sings about a toxic, one-sided relationship. She tells the story of being trapped in a cycle of giving without receiving, driven by an all-consuming love that blinds her to destructive dynamics. The song captures the vulnerability and pain of staying in a relationship where the balance is tipped in favour of the other person, yet the intense emotional attachment makes leaving unimaginable.
On the flip side, Evelle’s track “Come Back (Stronger)” is an equally moving piece but represents a turning point in her journey. Written during a period of deep betrayal, this song became her catharsis, a way to process the emotional toll and find closure. She channels her pain into strength, using music as a tool for healing and empowerment.
These two songs together showcase Evelle’s unmatched ability to turn personal struggles into art that inspires and uplifts others.
