The journey kicks off with “Angles,” where the tone is set on a record that explores life’s perspectives and perceptions. Delving into my personal story, I touch on my uni days and think back to the mindset that led me into music, making an effort in linking these elements to my origin story. “Everything depend on your view, nigga.”
It’s the perfect opportunity for me to share my own unique perspective or “angle” on the societal issues I’ve become acutely aware of, as seen in the song “Belly.”
In “Belly,” a contraction of “belly of the beast,” I find myself grappling not only with external challenges but also my internal struggles. There are battles against various forces, including my own thoughts, to escape the clutches of the metaphorical “belly of the beast.” This track thematically delves into religious, correctional, and governmental systems that often wield their influence over the populace.
“Fire On The Mountain” continues the thematic thread, honing in even more on the themes explored in “Belly.” There’s a closer look at the turmoil in the Northern region of Nigeria, a place close to my heart as it’s where I grew up. My firsthand experience gives me insight into the region’s struggles, and I try to narrate my bird’s-eye view of the situation. The chorus, with its nostalgic reference to “fire on the mountain,” creates a haunting connection between childhood memories and the urgency of the current predicaments.
The set culminates with ”Money,” a triumphant finale that pays homage to the pivotal role of money in shaping the world. Set against a backdrop reminiscent of the heyday of gangsta rap, I make an effort to impart street knowledge to the listener, guiding them on navigating business and seizing opportunities in their environment. “Money” serves as a solution to the challenges explored in the preceding tracks, emphasizing the significance of financial freedom and community investment.
