Afro-Fusion newcomer, Dusten Truce, wraps up summer with his smooth new single, ’Left & Right’! Produced by promising Wasalu (AYLO/Zirra/Nesza), Dusten Truce drops catchy pick-up lines over a chilled Afro-house bounce.
With lyrics in English, Pidgin and Igbo, ‘Left & Right’ rests on a composition of drums, horns and electric guitar; a carefully considered combination which takes listeners on a sonic journey. An exciting storyteller, Dusten Truce draws listeners in with “ebelebe” – a slang made popular by Afrobeats artists that traces its origins to the Igbo language (Nigeria) and loosely translates to “shock”. Very befitting for ‘Left & Right’ as it spotlights Dusten Truce’s love interest, a “baddie” who has left him captivated by her hypnotic body. The depth of which can be heard through bold lyrics, melodies and a confident flow.
When asked about the creation process of ‘Left & Right’, Dusten Truce said: “I made this song about a certain woman in my life that was just too sweet (lol). Wasalu was the perfect person to make this song with cuz I was really looking for that swing. We wanted to create something soft and easy, so I could tell you a story and make you dance and I think we did just that”.
Prior to this release was Dusten Truce’s 2021 album ‘Smoke Break’. This was well received by the Nigerian music industry, including well-known music critic, Motolani Alake, who dubbed the project an “excellent body of work” in his Album Review.
‘Left & Right’ is the lead single from Dusten Truce’s forthcoming album ‘Smoke Break 2’.
