POETRY: MY COUNTRY HAS GONE MAD | EHIZOJIE EGBADON

My country has gone mad

The Binis and Igbos are not the same?

My country has gone mad

The Muslims and Christians are not the same?

Roses are red

And so are the lilies

So are the daisies

And so are the blossoms

My country has gone mad

Whose father was not taken a slave?

Whose mother did not worship deities?

My country has gone mad

You say we are not the same

We should go our separate ways

But we are bound by blood and chains

By time and space

My country has gone mad

Like the ones who ran naked

Like the man who ate his excrement

Like a woman who sucks her own breast

My country is a threat to herself

My country is choking on suicidal tendencies

My country has a gun to her heart

My country has gone mad.
